Blue Planet II is the second painting depicting the pale blue dot in the Arcadia series of artworks. ‘Blue Planet’ is also the name of a documentary series by David Attenborough on the BBC where he notes that Earth’s surface is covered by 71% water. It floats in the mythical place of Arcadia, which forms the bases or setting behind which the imagination is allowed to soar. Abstract and conceptual ideas are melded into the terrain of traditional landscape paintings.
